Do you play the electric guitar? Are you ready to take it to the next level? This seminar is a condensed USC Thornton School of Music Studio/Jazz Guitar performance course that focuses on jazz, rock and classical repertoire, as well as sight-reading, theory, improvisation and technique. The seminar includes classroom and ensemble/performance settings.


  • Multiple student performance opportunities (jazz, rock, singer/songwriter, classical)

  • Clinic/master classes with the distinguished faculty from the USC Thornton School of Music Studio/Jazz Guitar department
  • Field trips to world renowned jazz venues in Los Angeles

Topics of Study:

How to Apply:

Each applicant must create an audition CD or mp3. Performances can be either solos or group arrangements. The recording should be no longer than five minutes. It needs to include the following two items:

  1. The student’s version of the jazz standard “Autumn Leaves” by Joseph Kosma. The student should demonstrate his or her ability to play the melody, to accompany with chords and to improvise a solo. 
  2. A selection of the applicant’s choice, in any style, that best demonstrates his or her playing abilities.
